Resilient design
The key function of a building is to protect the contents inside from the environment outside. Traditionally, this meant keeping people warm and dry and food stock secure from pests and theft. Today, it means building a finely controlled climate and protecting the contents from a broad range of real and imagined external threats. We realised some years ago that security, climate control and continuous operation under all conditions was essential to many of our customers, most notably in the telecoms and IT industry. We know, from our work on Data Centres, server rooms, and telecom switch sites, that it is not enough to just design the building fabric. We must identify threats and manage risks, and integrate the process plant into the design to achieve reliable, secure, energy-efficient, robust buildings.
We call this Resilient Design.
